Wells Gray Provincial Park and Jasper

7/3/11
This morning I woke up at 3:30 and had to wait three hours for breakfast. Finally, 6:30 came and the four of us went to the breakfast room. Not surprisingly, we were the first to arrive, but surprisingly, nobody came until after 7 o’clock. The breakfast was the first hot continental breakfast we had in several days. There were sausage (it looked more like a meat patty) and poached eggs. I ate one sausage with English muffin, half a sausage, a poached egg, and I drank a cup of orange juice and a cup of milk. The first bite of the sausage was very delicious, but after a few bites it tasted too salty and oily. Nevertheless, it was the best breakfast since we arrived at Canada.

After breakfast, we drove up the mountain and saw many waterfalls and rivers and lakes. Yesterday we visited one of the three most famous waterfalls, Spahats Falls, and we visited the other two today. First, we went to Dawson Falls. When we got to Helmcken Falls, it was raining, but right after I decided to stay in the car, it ceased to rain, so I changed my mind. Judy stayed on the car sleeping. In fact, she did not wake up until after we visited Chain Meadows, Bailey’s Chute, and drove back to the Wells Gray Park Information-Center, Clearwater. Chain Meadows is the last challenge for the spawning salmons, and only 1% of all salmons can success. There are eight rapids on this river; each looks beautiful and dangerous. For example, Bailey’s Chute was named after the man who drowned while attempting to build a bridge.

We drove back to the information center at about 1 o’clock. A part of the road wasn’t paved, and the result could be seen clearly on our car; the lower half of it is extremely dusty. I drew a smiley and Dad drew a heart on it. The drawing became blurry after it hailed. Anyways, we drove on to Jasper after going to the restroom.

The journey to Jasper was uneventful; Judy and I sang a few songs, it rained a few times, I ate most of the non-chicken-breast part of the roasted chicken we bought yesterday, I tried to doze off a bit, Mom complained a little of this and a little of that, and we arrived at our hotel, Becker’s Chalet. We stayed here two years ago.

Our cabin is much more luxurious than the one we stayed at two years ago. Instead of a one-story cramped cabin, this time we got a two-story cabin with a living room, a kitchenette, a bedroom with a double bed in it, and a bathroom in the first floor. On the second floor, there are a double bed and a queen size bed. A large fireplace stands at the corner of the living room, and the stairs is beside it. It is covered with green carpet, just like the whole cabin. The curtains are red. The cabin smells like wood.

After a dinner of instant noodles and chicken, Dad and I hiked around the woods nearby. There was a river, too, with a small but clear rainbow, and the whole scene was picturesque. It was cold at first, but after walking for several minutes, it felt nicely cool. There were many kinds of fungi. There were two trails, and the two were almost parallel. We tried guessing for the reason of it, but gave up. Then we walked back to our hotel.
